Making Japan Exhibition

March 26 - October 31

Visit the Making Japan exhibition at Lotherton. Making Japan celebrates everything from Samurai to Nintendo, Kimonos to Manga. The exhibition highlights the dynamic relationship between tradition and innovation as expressed by the people of this vibrant East Asian nation. It also explores the relationship the Gascoigne family of Lotherton had with Japan, showcasing some of the beautiful items they collected while living there.

Introducing the Annie Marchant Kitchen and Dairy Collection

In 2020 antiques dealer Annie Marchant left a generous gift which came to Kiplin Hall and Gardens. This exhibition showcases her impressive collection of historic kitchen and dairy equipment to the public for the first time. The exhibition explores how and why museums collect, and how these collections are cared for and preserved for future generations.   Annie Marchant was a lively and generous woman with a passion for the past. Joana Vasconcelos: Beyond

April 12, 2021 - January 7, 2022

The UK’s largest ever exhibition by celebrated Portuguese artist Joana Vasconcelos (b. 1971) is extended until January 2022. The project comprises vibrant, sometimes monumental, sculpture, using fabric, needlework and crochet alongside everyday objects, from a laundry drying rack to car wheel hubs

We are delighted to welcome graphic artist Anthony Burrill back to Harewood, with a brand new installation: TOGETHER WE ARE.  Featuring six unique flag artworks, visitors will be able to enjoy the great outdoors and explore new areas now open to the public, taking in moments of mindfulness, set against the stunning backdrop of Harewood and beyond.

The Big Harewood Walk

May 15 - October 31

The circular Big Harewood Walk unlocks brand new parts of the site for the first time. 
Split into three sections – the North Woods, the South View and the Lakeside Tour – 
the circular route will take in All Saints’ Church with its beautifully-crafted alabaster 
tombs and a secret tunnel in the North Woods, with our Horsebox newly relocated for 
an energy-boosting treat; it will open up Harewood’s East Terrace and South View for 
the very first time, and link up with the Lakeside Tour which takes in the Bird Garden, Himalayan Garden, Bothy and Walled Garden.

Bertie Robinson: The Footman from St Vincent

Harewood have teamed up with Leeds-based DSRG (the Diasporian Stories Research Group) to bring to life the story of Harewood’s first black member of staff, George ‘Bertie’ Robinson. Bertie travelled with the 5th Earl and Countess from St Vincent to Leeds aged 13 to work for the Lascelles family. Launching in the Yellow Drawing Room from 17 May, Bertie Robinson : The Footman from St Vincent is part of an annual series which will celebrate and share the histories of people of African descent with Yorkshire connections throughout history.
