Yorkshire Sculpture Park (YSP) invites visitors to escape from the stresses of everyday life and focus on their wellbeing with a series of special events for National Museums & Wellbeing Week, from 12–18 March 2018.
The week, coordinated by The National Alliance for Museums, Health & Wellbeing, is an opportunity for museums across the country to showcase their health and wellbeing offer and raise awareness of this valuable area of work. At YSP, visitors can take part in various wellbeing events during the week, or enjoy a mindful exploration around the historic 500-acre estate.
On Saturday 17 March, spend a day walking, thinking, talking and gaining some insight into the things that are on your mind, with GP Andrew Wilson and Group Analyst Chris Powell. Room to Breathe (09.30–16.30 / £38) will help you discover the areas you need to focus on, decisions you need to make, problems you need to resolve and then have the space to explore them.
In the playful Tinker Project (18 March / 11.00–13.00 & 14.00–16.00 / £3, aimed at age 6+), transform ordinary objects into new and exciting sculptures. Led by artists Natalie Bellingham and Gonçalo Birra, you will find out what’s inside everyday household objects and remake them into something new. Let your imagination run wild!
Throughout the week, practice some guilt-free time wasting and embrace being unproductive with a few mindful minutes of relaxation in our Rest is Radical (12–18 March / 10.00–17.00 / free) woodland hammocks.
YSP began a three-year research project with the University of Huddersfield in 2016 exploring the everyday visitor experience at the Park and what impact this could have upon happiness and wellbeing. At this halfway stage, we want to hear what you have to say. Join PhD researcher Claire Booth and design students from the University of Huddersfield for our ‘Happiness, Health and Wellbeing at YSP’ Research Open Day (18 March / 10.00–17.00 / Free) to share your experiences, learn more about this ongoing project, and give your valuable thoughts and feedback about happiness and wellbeing at YSP.
YSP is also celebrating Slow Art Day on 14 April 2018 with Mindful Moments (08.45–10.30 / £10) and Move, Make and Meditate for families (11.00 & 14.00 / £3). Slow Art Day is a global event with a simple mission to help more people discover the joy of looking at and loving art.
