A new exhibition by artist and illustrator Gillian Tyler is coming to Nunnington Hall, on display from Saturday 11 September – Sunday 31 October.
Gillian’s work is inspired by the nature that surrounds her home in South Yorkshire, on the edge of the Peak District. Often inspired by the seasons, nature and native wildlife, Gillian’s creative practice encompasses a series of large hand coloured linocut prints, miniature wood engravings and illustrations from her work in publishing & children’s picture books. Gillian has illustrated books for Michael Rosen, Allan Ahlberg and Dori Chaconas.
On Sunday 12 September, 12noon-2pm Gillian will be at Nunnington Hall in the exhibition gallery doing lino cutting and wood engraving demonstrations.
Hannah Highsted, visitor experience officer at Nunnington Hall says:
‘Gillian’s work is inspired by the nature that surrounds her, which is perfect for the rural setting of Nunnington Hall. We’re really excited to be showing Gillian’s artwork at Nunnington and that Gillian’s coming to Nunnington on Sunday 12 September to do some demonstrations. As well as admiring the artwork, visitors can buy artwork, prints and books from the exhibition.’
Nunnington Hall will be opening its doors for free on Sunday 12 and Monday 13 September as part of England’s largest festival of history and culture, Heritage Open Days. As well as Gillian’s demonstrations on Sunday 12 September, on both Sunday and Monday there will guided tours of the house showing visitors some behind the scenes areas of the hall.
Hannah Highsted, visitor experience officer at Nunnington Hall says:
‘We’re really looking forward to taking part in Heritage Open Days at Nunnington Hall. Due to Covid we haven’t been able to run our guided tours as normal, so it’s great to be bringing them back and sharing some of the secrets of Nunnington Hall. Visitors can book onto a free tour at Visitor Reception when they arrive at Nunnington.’
There is no need to book a visit to see the exhibition. The hall is open from 10.30am-4.30pm, with last entry at 3.45pm. The gardens are open 10am-5pm, with last entry at 4pm. For more information about visiting Nunnington Hall, visit www.nationaltrust.org.uk/nunnington-hall or call 01439 748283.
