The Secret History of Sweets

April 15

Join York Cocoa Works for the ultimate hands on workshop for anyone with a sweet tooth, which will explore the heritage of confectionery and the creation of the dessert course. This is a 2.5 hour workshop, which will take participants through the universal fascination with sugar and how the stately homes of England gave rise to dessert based celebrations in the provinces from which York as a centre of trade thrived.

This workshop pays tribute to Ann Fanshaw, Hannah Glasse, Joseph Bell – York Confectioner and eventually confectioner to the Royal Household together with recipes drawn from York’s chocolate and confectionery archive. Participants will work with authentic recipes and ingredients exploring the evolution of the dining table and the luxurious sugared treats that eventually became household staples, and you will get to take home your own stash of delicious sweet treats.

This experience will take place at 2.30pm on Saturday 15th April.

Tickets cost £60.00 per participant and include access to the House and Gardens.
