Character Studies – 3 Acts
March 1 @ 8:00 am - September 6 @ 5:00 pm

Character Studies – 3 Acts is a new site-specific commission by fashion designer Meg Fletcher, presented on The Bowes Museum terrace from 1 March 2026. Fletcher’s practice, rooted in character creation, explores how clothing transforms identity. This series of three flags reimagines the Museum’s founder, Joséphine Bowes, through the rebellious, visionary spirit of Dame Vivienne Westwood. Each flag blends elements of Bowes’s iconic portrait with silhouettes and motifs from Westwood’s landmark collections and the Museum’s historic artworks, creating a vivid intersection of fashion, history and storytelling.
