Come and experience one of the finest eighteenth-century townhouses in England.
Let Fairfax House transport you to the splendour of city-living in Georgian York. Originally the winter home of Viscount Fairfax and his daughter, it’s richly decorated interiors and magnificent stucco ceilings make it an architectural masterpiece. Fairfax House vividly recalls a lost world of 1760s-life with a beautiful collection of furniture and furnishings recreating the opulence, grandeur and comfort which once existed. In 2018 we celebrate the genius of Britain’s greatest ever carver – Grinling Gibbons with a special exhibition of his masterpieces. Families can also meet Gregory, The Townhouse Mouse, and enjoy his award-winning children’s trail and quest.
