Bolton Castle is a stunning late medieval castle completed in 1399.

Our visitor experience includes period dressed rooms, falconry, hawk and owl displays, a chance to try archery and a wild boar park. There is a tea room, gift shop and gardens, which include a maze. Tours and school activity days can be arranged with prior notice. We also have activity packs for children. Details of special events, including living history and theatre can be found on the website. The castle is a stunning wedding venue and is licensed for civil ceremonies, drinks and entertainments. It has also been used as a film location, including Ivanhoe, Elizabeth and recently the Horrible Histories film ‘Bill’.

Opening times

Open from 10am to 5pm from 1 April to 30 October 2017. We close on some Saturdays due to weddings. Please check website for details.

Directions

Approximately 5 miles west of Leyburn. Follow A684 to Wensley, turn right towards Redmire and Carperby (also brown signed) and castle will be seen soon after Redmire village.
